This is information, not legal advice. It tells you what the law says and what your next step usually is. It cannot tell you what to do in your case, and it is no substitute for a lawyer. For anything with a deadline, a court date, or a police matter in progress, speak to an advocate.
This is a pilot, and it has not been reviewed by practising advocates. It gets things wrong. Check the cited section before you act on anything here, and if the answer matters, verify it with someone qualified.

We keep it with the time you agreed, the IP address you agreed from, the version of these terms, and how many questions you asked and how many were answered, so we know how many people use the pilot and how often it works. It is kept apart from your questions: the service that answers never receives your email, and the questions we keep cannot be linked to it. It is not added to any mailing list. The email record is deleted 12 months after your last question; to have it deleted sooner, write to [email protected]. Your questions. We keep the question you asked and the answer you got, so we can find what this gets wrong, and we do not keep who asked it. Rate limiting uses a truncated one-way hash of your IP address combined with a session token your browser generates for this visit. It expires after 24 hours and is then deleted. Your IP address is not written into the question log; the only place it is kept is the email record above, as the address you agreed from. No device fingerprinting and no cookies. Your browser keeps a random access code so this device does not ask for your email again. A cookieless counter records aggregate page views on this page; it sets no cookie and identifies no one. Do not type anything that identifies you or anyone else: no names, no phone numbers, no case numbers, no addresses. Describe the situation, not the people. Questions are read by us to improve the system.
